The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie and art by Ellen Forney

I really enjoyed reading The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie. Last year we read some of Sherman Alexie’s short stories in class and I enjoyed them so I decided to read his book. And I loved it, I sat down and read the whole thing in one sitting. It is about a Native American boy named Junior who attends an all-white high school just outside of the reservation. It is about his first year of high school and what he faces being the only Native American at his school and the backlash from everyone on the reservation for leaving the reservation. I am glad that I have waited this long to read it because if I had read it any younger I don’t think I would have appreciated it in the same way. This book reminded me of The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas, and I would again recommend The Hate U Give and this book but for this book I think that it is best to be read in high school because it can best be appreciated the older you read it.
