Black History Month

Black History Month

As February is Black history month, we wanted to honor some of our favorite African American authors and main characters. We have been trying to diversify the topics, characters and authors that we read about and we hope this list helps you do this as well. With the political climate as it is, spreading positive messages about diversity is very important so we hope our list helps you with this.

Some of my favorite Historical Fiction books that teach about black history are:
-Ashes by Laurie Halse Anderson
-Chains by Laurie Halse Anderson
-Forge by Laurie Halse Anderson
-Copper Sun by Sharon Draper
Stella by Starlight by Sharon Draper

-The Slave Dancer by Paula Fox
-Kizzy Ann Stamps by Jeri Watts
-Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry by Mildred D. Taylor
March Trilogy by John Lewis, Andrew Aydin, and Nate Powell

Some good YA and Middle Grade:
When I was the Greatest by Jason Reynolds
Fences by August Wilson (This is a play)
