Books we are looking Forward to in the New Year

There are a lot of great books (and book to movies!) coming out this year. Lots of series ending and some new ones that we have been waiting forever for. Here are some of the ones that we are the most excited about:

  • I cannot wait for is the finale to An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir series, A Reaper at the Gate. I loved this series and cannot wait for the last book.
  •  Obsidio by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. It is coming out on March 13th. This will end the Illuminae trilogy and I cannot even begin to predict how it is going to all be tied together. I am looking forward to the mind-blowing conclusion to it all.
  • A book that I just loved and is going to come out next year is Juliet Takes a Breath by Gabby Rivera. I got to read an ARC and really loved this book and cannot wait for it to be shared with the world.
  • One of my new favorite authors, Angie Thomas, who is the Author of The Hate U Give, has a new book out this year. On the Come Up. Angie Thomas is one of my must read authors. I will read anything that she writes.
  • Jason Reynolds is one of my must read authors, I will read any book he writes. He has a new book, Sunny, out which is a conclusion to his middle grade trilogy. I have not read his trilogy yet (I am on hold for them at the library) but I cannot wait to read them and cannot wait to read all of his new books. He also has another book that will be published in 2018, a poem called For Every One, as well as two anthologies he is part of will also be published in 2018.
  • Alexandra Bracken will be adding to The Darkest Minds series with a new book called The Darkest Legacy that I cannot wait to read. We get to follow Zu, who was one of my favorite characters. When the series ended I was so sad to leave behind the world of The Darkest Mind, but now we get to go back! It comes out August 7, 2018.
  • The Belles by Dhonielle Clayton looks amazing. I can’t wait to read it! It came out on February 6th, 2018 and it looks amazing. It is instantly going to the top of my to-read pile.
  • A book that I have not read yet but am excited to read next year is The Prince and the Dressmaker by Jen Wang, a graphic novel that seems like it will be a lot of fun. It comes out on February 13th, 2018.
  • Aru Shah and the End of Time by Roshani Chokshi looks amazing! I am glad that I only have to wait until March 27th to read it.

There are also some books being turned into movies that will be coming out this year!

  • The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken is being turned into a movie that will come out this year, although a date has not been set. I am looking forward to more people learning about this creative series and I hope that the movie fulfills all the potential that the book creates for it.
  • The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas is also being made into a movie this year. I am super excited as it is one of my favorite books. It does not have a date set but it is supposed to come out sometime in 2018. I plan on seeing it in theaters within a week of it coming out.
  • Between Shades of Grey by Ruta Sepetys is being turned into a movie, Ashes in the Snow. This book is one of my favorite historical fiction books and this genre doesn’t always get the movie adaptions.
  • And lastly Love, Simon a movie of the book Simon vs. The Homo Sapien Agenda by Becky Albertalli is coming out. I am super excited to see this YA book be turned into a movie as it has such good representation of all teenagers, not just the straight ones.
