The Color Purple by Alice Walker

The Color Purple by Alice Walker

I read The Color Purple by Alice Walker as a school assignment and had no idea about what it was about before I read it and ended up loving it. It was one of the most moving books I have read. It is about a Black girl named Celie who lives in the South in the early 1900’s and her life as a woman of color. It is written in a format of letters but is pretty easy to follow and sucks you in on the first page. It greatly illustrates the issues of the patriarchy and abuse, and the issue of when things aren’t talked about. I would also recommend reading it with a book club and I think that this is a book that everyone needs to read although it is for High Schoolers and older (sexual content and adult language).
