El Deafo by Cece Bell

El Deafo by Cece Bell

El Deafo by Cece Bell is sweet and to the point. It is about a girl named Cece who looses her hearing when she is little and how she copes with it. She gets hearing aides and learns to lip read so that she can better understand what is going on around her. For her first year of school she is in a class where everyone is like her and uses hearing aides. But her family moves to a new town and she starts at a new school. At this new school she has to figure out how to make friends, but first how to accept herself. She has to accept herself before she can be accepted by others. This graphic novel shows a neat perspective on what it is like to be deaf. It also shows how you need to accept yourself to be happy and make friends. I would recommend this book to anyone who liked Smile by Raina Telgemeier or a story about acceptance.
