El Deafo by Cece Bell

El Deafo by Cece Bell

Although I do not normally read graphic novels, I decided to make an exception with this one. I had met the author and heard great things about it, so I was excited to read it. It was really cute and great, exactly what I thought it would be. This book is about Cece, she loses her hearing when she is four and has to wear hearing aids from then on. This book shows what it is like to be deaf and to use hearing aids, that is not what it is all about. A major part of this book is her quest for a true friend. I really liked this book and it taught me a lot about what it is like to use a hearing aid, I had never truly understood before. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a good friendship story or what it is like to be deaf. I would also say that this book is intended for middle or elementary schoolers, not high school (although that does not mean that they can not read it (look at me)). I give this book four stars because it was really cute and had a great message.
