Every Last Word by Tamara Ireland Stone

Every Last Word by Tamara Ireland Stone is about a girl named Sam who is one of the popular crowd at her school. But she has a secret that if her friends found out she would be one of the people that they shunned. Sam has Pure Obsessional OCD and visits a psychiatrist every week. She keeps this all a secret because all she wants is to be normal, and normal people don’t have OCD. But she begins to make a friend, Caroline, who she can share her secret with. But she keeps her new friend a secret from her popular friends. Caroline also introduces her to Poet’s Corner, a place where people share their poetry, there she begins to find herself and starts learning how to write her own poetry, not to mention hanging out with AJ, the leader of Poet’s corner. I really loved this book and felt like it explained really well what it was like to have anxiety and OCD. I also loved how Sam had a close relationship with her family, it seems like everywhere it is uncool for teenagers to actually want to hang out with their family, but in reality it is good to hang out with family. Not everybody does have a good relationship, but when they do I feel it is discounted. I also liked how genuine of a person Sam was, how she did make some bad decisions, and felt guilty for them and did her best to fix them. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants perspective about anxiety and OCD or anyone who wants a story about expressing yourself. (Although it is for High Schoolers)
