Fences by August Wilson

Fences by August Wilson

This is another play that I read for school, this time, to compare to Death of A Salesman by Arthur Miller. It is about the American Dream, but this time, not from a middle class perspective but from the African American perspective. In this play we follow Troy as he tries to show his son the true meaning of the American Dream. I like the symbolism that was apparent throughout the play. An interesting part was how the objects in the play were symbolic versus in a story where objects do not have the hidden meaning (most of the time). I would recommend this, but with a warning that it does use the N word, because that is accurate for that time. I am giving it five stars because it was really interesting and I found myself really thinking about it and the characters. The characters and the symbolism really stuck with me.
