George by Alex Gino

George by Alex Gino

I saw this in many places on the internet, and so when it showed up in my house (my mom is a librarian so random books are always showing up), I decided that it was time to read it. I realized that it was going to be a fast read, but I had no idea how fast. I read this in a matter of three hours and it was wonderful the whole time. The reader follows George as everyday it seems harder to act and appear like a boy, and so when the school play comes around, George thinks it would be a great way to show people how she really feels about her body. But we watch as everything does not go according to plan and feel along with George the struggle of people not understanding. This book does a great job of illustrating what it feels like and mean to be a transgender person. It puts to an end the argument “it’s just a phase” and even though it is young, I think it does a great job of simply explaining what it means to be transgender and so I would recommend this to anyone who is trying to understand themselves as transgender and everyone in today’s changing world.
