Georgia Peaches and Other Forbidden Fruit by Jaye Robin Brown

Georgia Peaches and other Forbidden Fruit by Jaye Robin Brown is a feel good read. Jo is an out lesbian but when her Dad marries her new stepmother and they move to middle of nowhere Georgia he asks her to go back in the closet to not make waves in the small-town community. Jo goes along with it with the agreement that her Dad, a radio evangelist preacher, gives her own talk segment where she can talk about being Christian and gay. Jo doesn’t think staying in the closet will be to hard until she develops a crush on her new friends sister who might also like her back. This book discussed, gatekeeping, coming out, and how everyone can be queer in their own way in a really respectful and open way. I also just loved the characters and how it discussed how being gay intersects with religion. I really enjoyed reading this book and am sad that it is over.
