The Giver Book vs. Movie

The Giver Book vs. Movie

I recently read The Giver by Lois Lowry and so I was excited that they were making it into a movie. But I was really nervous that they were going to mess it up, the book was good and very thoughtful and so I wondered how they were going to convey the same ideas in the movie. The Giver is about a boy named Jonah who lives in a perfect community where everyone is the same. But there is one person who is not, the giver, who has all the memories of not being same so that he can advise the council. On graduation day Jonah is chosen to be the receiver, he will be training to be the new giver, but what does that mean? When the trailer came out and I saw it I thought that they had ruined it, the trailer doesn’t convey the ideas of the book and it looked like they had messed it up. This made we not want to see the movie. But when I finally did, it was great. It stayed pretty true to the book and they only changed a couple of things to put them more into context, you can’t convey the same ideas the way you can in a book. Overall I really liked it even though I wasn’t expecting too. I would recommend this movie to anyone who has read The Giver and Ender’s Game (Or saw Ender’s Game movie)
