The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald

I have already read The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald before, a few years ago, but this year we were required to read it for school. This time I focused on the metaphors and what they represented and how they were trying to achieve their dreams. I liked it a lot more then I did reading it the last time. Before I only saw the characters as superficial and self absorbed. Looking at it from a different perspective the characters are more tragic, trying to achieve their dream but not being able to, because people don’t care enough. This book is about Nick, Daisy, Tom, Myrtle, and Jay Gatsby. Nick moves to New York and lives next to Gatsby, so he gets to witness Gatsby’s astounding parties. He is also Daisy’s cousin and so he visits her and her husband Tom along with her friend Jordan. This is the tragic story of Gatsby trying to achieve his dream, and all he has sacrificed to try to get it.
