Lady Midnight (The Dark Artifices #1) by Cassandra Clare

Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare is a fast read (despite the size) and is pretty enjoyable (there are only a few moments when the characters make terrible decisions). This book takes place after the events of City of Heavenly Fire, Emma Carstairs and Julian Blackthorn live in the Los Angeles Institute with Julian’s Uncle who runs the institute. They take care of Julian’s younger brothers and sisters, Tavvy, Livvy, Dru, and Ty. They also take care of any demonic issues within Los Angeles. But when something comes up that is very similar to the death of Emma’s parents they start investigating, despite how much trouble they could get in for breaking the Cold Peace. They each have their own fight, Emma revenge for her parent’s death and Julian to get his brother, Mark, back from the Wild Hunt and sister, Helen, back from exile. It had the perfect amount of enough old characters to make you happy but not just throwing them in there. I enjoyed reading it, seeing the characters develop, and once again being in the Shadow world. I would recommend this to any fan of the Shadowhunter world.
