Memories of My Melancholy Whores by Gabriel García Márquez

Memories of My Melancholy Whores by Gabriel García Márquez

Memories of My Melancholy Whores by Gabriel García Márquez is a very well written intriguing, interesting read. Istarts off on a very weird topic and gets kind of creepy. The day a man turns ninety he starts to realize that he is getting old. Up till then he had never really felt old, he was always just waiting to start living his life. And he decides to celebrate his 90th birthday that he would go to his old favorite brothel. There the owner offers him a 14-year-old virgin for his birthday. And he falls in love with her. From here he starts to live his life and question his values. This book is a pretty quick read and fits very well into Nietzsche’s philosophy. I read it for school and I would recommend reading it with a group because there is a lot to discuss. I found it very interesting, I liked the ideas it showed about living live how you want to but found it ultimately a bit creepy. I would also say it is for high school students and up.
