Never Fade (The Darkest Minds #2) by Alexandra Bracken

It has been a long time since I read the first book in this series, I found that I was able to remember enough with the book filling in the rest. The danger in this means it is harder to predict what will happen next because some of the context is skewed to fit the knowledge of the character and not what the reader should know. The first book in this series was original, intense and frustrating. In the first book, it was a good combination that made for a fun read. But in the second book, all of these aspects were amplified and it did not make as good of a combination as it did the first time. In this book Ruby is working with the Children’s League, as part of her deal to free Liam from them. As more secrets are revealed to Ruby and as she gets to know the people better she begins to doubt herself. Although this book does not have an extreme case of the second book curse, it is definitely present which makes parts of it dull. Overall it was good enough to follow through with the trilogy and read the final book in the series.
