Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard

Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard

Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard is mind blowing and shocking. Mare Barrow is a Red, she has red blood, and steals to support her family. Mare lives in a world where they are divided by blood – Red and Silver, the Silver have special abilities that make them ‘superior’ to the Reds. The Reds don’t live a good life, normally a life full or poverty and misery, which is why Mare has to steal. If by the time you turn 18 you don’t have a job, you are conscripted. Three of Mare’s brothers have already been conscripted and Mare is only a few months away from being 18. Mare does what she can for her family, and her best friend Kilron helps out. Although Her little sister Gisa has a job. Everything starts to go wrong when Mare has a lucky break and gets a job as a servant in the house of the King. But her lucky break doesn’t seem so lucky anymore when she ends up a prisoner of the King. This book was very good, Mare was very relatable, a good representation of the human condition and it had a GIANT plot twist. It was awesome and I didn’t seem it coming at all. This book also mirrors history, how the lower class will always rise up and rebel. I really enjoyed reading this book. I would recommend this book to anyone who like Storm Siren by Mary Weber, or The Young Elites by Marie Lu.
