Rose Under Fire (Code Name Verity, #2) by Elizabeth Wein

Rose Under Fire (Code Name Verity, #2) by Elizabeth Wein

After reading Code Name Verity, it was only a matter of time before I read this one because I liked Code Name Verity so much. Even though it was about different characters and had a completely different story line (not continuing the story), it was still a great book. It was really cool and interesting to see how they overlapped. It was also interesting to see the different roles that women got to take in the war (also the different roles that they were not able to take). I am a fan of World War II historical fiction, so I came in excited, at first it was slow. But it was not slow because it was boring, it was slow because it was deep. This book is about Rose Justice, she is a pilot in Britain during World War II. She has more experience flying then most of the men, but she only gets to transport planes to different airfields. When the chance arrives to fly an important passenger to Paris, she jumps at the opportunity. Everything is fine, until her flight back to Britian. She is captured by the Nazi’s and taken to a women’s concentration camp where she befriends a group, the Rabbits. They are called that because they have been tested and experimented on by the Nazis.. This book is written as a journal, and so skips in places. It was cool to see the characters from Code Name Verity and to see how they continued with their lives. This book followed Rose after the war too, it is really interesting to read about the aftereffect of the concentration camp. Not a lot of books follow through with that, they normally go up to their liberation.  When the book was beginning to end, I was mad, I did not like where it was going. In the end though, the conclusion was good and I really liked it. I was sad when it was over. This is a must read for anyone who loved Code Name Verity and wants to revisit old characters and anyone who is interested in World War II. It would also be a good book club book.
