Saints and Misfits by S.K. Ali is about Janna, a teenage Muslim girl just trying to survive high school. When her best friend’s cousin attempts sexually assault her Janna does not know what to do. She tries to just go on with her life but finds it harder and harder to move past it. Janna has to reevaluate her motivates and morals to see what is best for her but also confront her own ideas about what she believes is the right thing to do. It does a very good job of showing why a survivor would or would not come forward and the pressure that is put onto the survivor. It also shows what the typical life for a Muslim girl and the importance of the hijab which is shown in a non-stereotypical way. The pacing was a bit slow, but overall it was a good read.
