Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys

Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys

Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys was an amazing and heartbreaking story. It is about a group of young people who find each other and their journey to get out of Germany. Joana feels guilty for what she did in the past, so she is doing all she can to help others. Florian is on the run, running from his past, he knows that what he carries with him will get him killed if anyone finds out. Emilia has a secret, she knows that if she doesn’t get help soon she might not make it much farther. They all have one goal, the ships that are taking the refugee’s away from Germany, for most of them it doesn’t matter where as long as it is somewhere else. This story is beautifully written and is heartbreaking. At points I didn’t think it could get any sadder, but it did. This book is not a sequel to but is set in the same world Ruta Sepetys Between Shades of Grey is in, you might even recognize a few names. I loved this book and would recommend this book to anyone who wants a story about the heartbreak and struggles of war, but also how there is always hope.
