A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith

A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith

This book has been recommended to me by my family. One of the reasons they liked it so much was because they found it very relatable. I did too, even though I do not live in Brooklyn I found that I could relate to Francie in many other ways. I am also reading this book for a book club, I am glad that I am because there is a lot to discuss. This book is about Francie Nolan. She is growing up very poor in Brooklyn and in the book you follow her from when she was 10 to being a teenager and becoming a women. Francie is having to face a lot of hardship and disappointment throughout her life, yet she is always able to accomplish anything she wants. At the beginning of the  book it took 54 pages to describe a Saturday, even though it took a really long time, I was never bored. This shows how good the writing is. This book does not have a lot of action, but it is interesting and enjoyable to read. I think that this is a great book club book.
