Wonder Book vs. Movie

Wonder Book vs. Movie

It has been awhile since I have read Wonder by RJ Palacios. When I was reading it, I really enjoyed it. So I was super excited to see it become a movie because it is always fun to see the movie adaption of a book. But I was super disappointed that they did not find an actor with a facial deformity and instead used a mask. This would have been a great opportunity to include someone with a facial deformity. People with disabilities need representation and by not having a person with a facial deformity play the character, it is denying them authentic representation. The movie is also more geared towards non-disabled people rather than people with disabilities. Otherwise I think they did a really good job keeping to the story of the book and got the same message across. One thing that I especially loved was how it kept the same story structure of the book, jumping to different character’s point of view.
